Fall Ball Open Practice Begins

Come one, come all! Open practice begins July 25th at the Center Point Courthouse Park at 1:00 PM.

Letter to the Parents of Pinson Softball

I would like to welcome you to the future of softball in our area. I know many of you are aware of the multitude of things that were causing a lot of friction, heart ache, and stress to the folks in the Softball Program at Pinson over the past few years therefore I am simply not going to go into a bunch of details about the past. I am, however, going to let you know what we can all be excited about moving forward.

We are a fairly large group of families that have decided to move on and separate ourselves from the PVYA (Pinson Valley Youth Association) and start a program for softball that is all about softball. We will be playing our home games at the two fields located beside the Courthouse in Center Point right off of Center Point Parkway. The fields at the Courthouse are actually closer to McDonald’s in Pinson than the PVYA Complex is so we are still pretty close to most folks that play ball with us. We are going to be playing the same group of parks that we have been playing for years.

Each team will be able to have a couple of scheduled practice times on the fields each week. There will be no need for a bunch of work days at the park in order to play. We will not have to have a schedule for folks to clean the park on a regular basis we will simply need to make sure we clean the dugouts up after each game just like we should do if we were a guest at another park. There is no longer a need for trash duty at the end of every night. For the people that enjoy walking around at the park there is a nice sidewalk that goes around both softball fields. The lady that is in charge of the Center Point Youth Association is a former softball player and seems to be very excited about us coming to play ball with them it is a very good feeling to be a part of an organization that makes you feel like family in my opinion.

The cost to play is another very good deal. This fall the registration will be $40.00 and includes a T-shirt type jersey, a pair of shorts, and a trophy. Next spring it will cost less than 100.00 to play and that will include a full uniform and a trophy as well. There will not be a mandatory raffle ticket fee as part of registration. There will not be a mandatory concessions fee as part of registration. There will be some signs on the field I am sure, but it is only because some teams will choose to sell them to help with their team parties and such. It will not be mandatory that each team sells 250.00 worth of signs or directory ads. I am trying to come up with a plan that could help a little with funds for all the all-star teams and even offer a little incentive money to any team that makes the State Tournament to try and help offset the cost of going to State. We are also going to be able to host several tournaments throughout the fall and spring seasons.

I am excited about what the future holds as we move forward with a Softball Program that I think could be a very successful organization in just a short period of time. I will be calling everyone that has played at Pinson over the last couple of years to make sure no one is left out. Everyone will have a chance to move forward with us. It needs to be abundantly clear that the goal of moving forward is to continue to grow a Softball Program that we can all be proud to be a part of and remove the limitations that are holding our girls back from being the best that they can be. We do not want to split up the Softball Program, we are simply breaking away from the PVYA and creating a program where every girl that plays softball is not only welcome, they are wanted. Let’s play ball!

Thanks, Daryl
